From ceramics to agricultural machinery

At the crossroads of two Roman roads, the site where Bourgheim stands has been inhabited since the Ist century A.D.. The ruins of its small fort (burgus), which protected the road and the Kirneck river lookout, served as foundations for the building, in the XIIth century, of the Romanesque church. Archaeological excavations have brought to light numerous remains of potters' installations from the Roman period. During the Carolingian era, potters and glassmakers set up in the village.

Since 1954, a local company that manufactures agricultural machinery has marked the village's development, by its economic and social impact. The company has offered up to 400 jobs on this site and created 55 houses for its employees. Vines have long been grown on the slopes of the Piedmont, with cereals and tobacco occupying the land on the plain.
