Authentic Alsace

Founded in 750, according to certain writings, by Bléo, a relative of Saint Odile, it was from the village of Blienschwiller (guided tour) that the first peasant revolt began. Until the Revolution this wine-growing village and Nothalten and Zell were just one village. In 1842, the destruction of the tilery revealed remains dating back to the Gallo-Roman era.

As early as the Middle Ages, wine-growing know-how was already developing. In the XVIIIth century, it was the predominant economic activity, although small-scale coal mining was beginning to appear. Until 1854, there was a family company making silk gloves.

In the past, Saint Erasmus' chapel was a place where the faithful prayed for the relief of abdominal pain. See also : the Church of the Holy Innocents ('les Saints Innocents') and the central square with its fountain. .

Blienschwiller has managed to keep its authenticity as a wine-producing village : witness its Grand Cru, the Winzenberg and its festival "Du Cep au Verre" ('From the vine to the glass').
